The Carlight Heritage Collection

HOW THE CARLIGHT CAR COLLECTION STARTED

Shortly after we acquired the Carlight Coronet for the Carlight Collection, a customer seeing a photograph of the caravan with a Humber 12 alongside mentioned he was a Humber enthusiast and a member of the club and would look up the details of that particular car in the club records to see if still existed.

He later wrote to us saying the car was still around and he had contacted the owner and informed him of our interest should he wish to sell it in the future. A few years later the owner phoned us and said if we still wanted the car it was now for sale so we set off with a trailer to pick it up to reunite it with the Carlight Coronet.

So started by a chance remark the Carlight Collection has grown and now not only do we have one caravan from every decade of the Church Lane years but also we are now very close to also having a car from every decade to display alongside. Our intention isn’t to have tow-cars as such, but iconic cars of the era they represent or those of particular historic merit to the collection, hence the Morris Traveller from the 1950s
– a car that makes everyone smile
– and an E type, a car that become a symbol of the sixties, the AC 300ME, one of the true classics of its day, the Audi TT Mk1 , a real design icon and one of the first production-cars to be fitted with a DSG gearbox and and our latest acquisition a 1933 Austin 7 Boat Tail Special.
